DivinationWhat it stands for in a reading

Of the nine stars this is the one that reads most like the person in the room who makes the call. Clever, capable, fine-grained in what it notices, and able to bend when bending is what the situation needs and to straighten up again the moment it is not. Two quite different indicators sit inside the same star: it is taken for leaders and people in authority, and it is equally the symbol for doctors and for medicine. What it is not built for is hesitation — the whole of its strength is gathered at the point where a judgement is reached and then acted on.

  • People and roles: leaders, department heads, advisers and strategists, entrepreneurs, the central figure in any group — and in the same breath, doctors and nurses.
  • Medicine: asked about illness, this star stands for Western medicine and Western drugs. Its counterpart in the pairing is the stem Yi (乙), and that end covers Chinese medicine and Chinese herbs.
  • Read against Tian-Fu (天辅): one is Wen-Qu (文曲) and this one is Wu-Qu (武曲) — one governs teaching and letters, this one governs judgement and the decision.
  • The body and objects: the governing vessel of the spine, and the skeleton; gold, silver and jewellery, metal implements, medical instruments, and images of the god of wealth. The hospital as a place belongs here too.

"Greatly auspicious" is a default reading, not a verdict. Where this star delivers is the moment of judgement — reading the situation accurately, then committing to it. Dithering is the one posture it can do nothing with: when something ought to be decided and is not, none of the good in Tian-Xin comes out.

DestinyWhat it says about a person

Nature
Faced with something tangled, the first move is to step out of it and look in from outside. Emotion does not shift the person involved; the question of whether a thing is worth it gets worked out, and then worked out again.
Style
Risk and return go on the table first, and only then does the person involved decide which side to give up. Not whether it feels comfortable — whether the outcome is right. The more convoluted the situation, the finer the cut.
Strength
Order can be pulled out of disorder here: which parts are only noise and which actually move the result are separable to the person involved. Decision-making, negotiation, command and setting strategy all run on that same ability.
Impression
Cool, clever, standing a little way back. Not much gets said, but what does get said tends to land on the sore point, so everyone assumes the person involved already knows where things stand.
Pitfall
The calculation gets so clean that people end up in it as variables. Waiting for a perfect judgement, the decision keeps not being made; feeling stays pressed down for years, and what is left is someone permanently braced.

Feng ShuiIn a home or a direction

At the feng shui layer, Tian-Xin answers to the fine, the sharp and the valuable — small objects with precision built into them — and to the places where things get decided, managed and healed.

  • Character: precise, clean-lined and cool-headed, governing decision-making, medical treatment, refinement, and the clearing away of what is not wanted.
  • Objects: jewellery and ornaments, silverware, mirrors, clocks and watches, scissors, the scalpel, and finely made small things generally.
  • Places: city centres, healing centres, company offices and government offices, along with screens, courtyard walls and spirit walls.

Screens and courtyard walls count here too — the things that block and divide. What the nine stars recognise at this layer is objects and kinds of place; which room of a house belongs to whom is a separate system, run by the gates and the stems.
