DivinationWhat it stands for in a reading

The inauspicious star that gets named more often than any of the others, and the one that takes the lead whenever the question is about health. Change the question, though, and the face changes with it: an old friend not seen in years, a mother, an expectant woman, a student who has just been taken on. Ask about a trade and it is the farmer; ask about property and it is the land itself rather than the house standing on it. And it never travels alone — Tian-Qin (天禽) is lodged in the Kun Palace (坤宫) and flies with it, so whichever palace Tian-Rui lands in, Tian-Qin lands in.

  • Health questions: the principal symbol for illness, and the first impression it gives has sickness and death in it directly.
  • People and relationships: the mother, women, a woman who has just given birth, ordinary people in the mass. Also the old friend, the friend not seen for many years, and the childhood sweetheart — this same star is the one for taking instruction and for making friends.
  • Land and places: plots of land, and hospitals; farmers and crops belong here too.
  • Body and objects: the Conception vessel and the muscles; cloth, a chess board, an empty box.

No star in the set shows better than this one that a symbol carries no fixed meaning. Ask about health and it is the illness; ask about a pregnancy and it is the expectant mother; ask about a trade and it is the farmer; ask about taking a teacher and it is the student. A different question, a different face. One more distinction worth holding on to: for a question about property, the house is read from the Life Gate (生门) and the land itself from Tian-Rui.

DestinyWhat it says about a person

Nature
When something is off, the person involved is usually the first to feel it — a change in the body, in the mood, in the atmosphere of a room, none of it gets past them. No appetite for charging ahead, a mild way of speaking, and a guard that is never entirely lowered.
Style
Look at the risk first, then decide whether to move at all. At the first bad sign the speed comes down, and the standstill gets used to check the direction again. Progress counts for less here than whether the state of things has begun to tilt.
Strength
Seeing the problem before it goes off. Health work, risk control, auditing and assessment all fit, and the hazard everyone else walked past gets put on the table early. The finer the detail, the more accurate the read.
Impression
Quiet, careful, not much heard from — it takes standing close to notice how steadily the surroundings are being watched. No contest for the lead, and yet the one remark that does get made tends to land exactly on the sore spot.
Pitfall
Once the problem has been seen it gets stared at, and worry grows slowly over the top of judgement. Fear of making it worse turns into not moving at all, and the sensitivity that was there to protect the person involved ends up being spent on wearing them down.

Feng ShuiIn a home or a direction

At the feng shui layer Tian-Rui answers for earth, for nourishment, and for the class of object and place that keeps things stored and kept.

  • Character: nourishing, heavy and slow; it governs illness, delay, care and medicine.
  • Objects: soil, cloth, a chess board, an empty box, medicine, food, cosmetics, a sickbed, and anything yellow.
  • Places: fields and crops, village lanes, courtyards, wells and roads, and also the household shrine, the altar, cupboards and drawers.

What a star answers for in feng shui is objects and places. The assignment of rooms runs on a separate arrangement, and that one does not sit at the star layer.
